The Superior Court of the Virgin Islands is a court of record. The Office of the Court Reporter was established in accordance with 4 V.I. Code Ann. § 86.  Along with the stenograph machine, the Official Court Reporter utilizes the assistance of computer-aided transcription software to make and preserve a verbatim record of court proceedings, which may contain nonverbal incidents related to the proceedings.

The primary duty of the Court Reporters’ Office includes two phases. The first phase is making the record.  The second phase is transcript production - converting the record into readable form.

Upon request of an official transcript, the Court Reporter transcribes, proofreads, certifies, files the transcript with the court and distributes the official transcript to the interested parties.
